QPA Health and Safety Best Practice Awards 2008 Now Live and Online

Scheme open to Members and Non-Members via www.safequarry.com

The QPA, the principal trade body for the quarry products sector, has launched entry process for the 2008 Health and Safety Best Practice Awards. With the Awards Ceremony taking place on 17 October this year, the next few months will see companies from across the quarry products sector enter submissions to the scheme showcasing the best and most innovative health and safety practice.

Last year's record-breaking event saw over 200 entries into the scheme, which is arranged across a number of criteria reflecting health and safety priorities for the industry. For 2008, some amalgamations and improvements to the criteria have been made, with the schedule now covering:

  • Occupational Health, Hygiene and Welfare

  • Slips, Trips and Falls (including from height)

  • Management of Contractors and/or Hauliers

  • Worker Involvement

  • Prevention of Bitumen Spills

  • Technical Initiatives

  • Training Initiatives

  • Management Initiatives

Trophies will be awarded for the outstanding entry in each category along with certificates of merit recognising best practice. Overarching awards for both small and major companies will also be presented for across-the-board achievement.

Companies can now enter the awards through the QPA's new online entry system, designed to make participation easier and quicker than ever before - visit www.safequarry.com and click the Awards button on the homepage. The scheme is open to QPA members and non-member companies alike, ensuring that the sector can benefit from the widest possible range of ideas from all with a stake in our industry. The submission deadline is Friday 28 March.

Advice on entering is available from Martin Isles, QPA's Director, Health and Safety, on 020 7963 8000 or isles@qpa.org.
